At Get Real we are working to use the most environmentally sound packaging using material from renewable sources that can be either composted or recycled.

New Developments

Get Real - Leading the way with compostable tray!

Out with the foil and in with the 100% biodegradable, compostable tray.  Our new line of quiche has been launched in this new more environmentally friendly tray which we will also be using for our Organic Blueberry Desserts.

The quiche box material comes under the FSC protection. It is from managed forests (not rain forests) where every year new growth exceeds the wood harvested by 45%.  Energy used to process the wood in the paper and board industry is derived from non-cellulose parts of the wood and so is also naturally renewable.  The paper and board products from this can be recovered by recycling or it can be composted.

We intend to use this material for all our boxes, unlike recycled material, it is made from virgin board which means food can be packed directly into it.

The film used in our quiche box is clarifoil cellulose diacetate film which is derived predominantly from sustainable non-fossil fuel resource and is biodegradable under commercial aerated composting conditions.

Improvements within the packaging film industry are being made as legislation drives recycling targets higher. We will be looking to use the most environmentally viable film maintaining the integrity of our products.
